Collaborating with HLAB, Symposium in Japan is a 10-day summer program for Japanese high school students interested in a liberal arts education and who have a strong command of the English language. Through studies of literature humanities, contemporary civilizations, art humanities and music humanities, students from Columbia University in New York will lead students in seminar-style classes and discussions based off of the humanities classes at Columbia as well as Eastern classics, intertwining the two cultures through learning in a cross-cultural environment. In addition to these discussions, students will have experience learning outside of the classroom as the Symposium leaders take their classes on various excursions throughout Tokyo, creating a unique and panoramic approach to learning. During the session, students and leaders will be living in the same housing, giving students the opportunity to truly bond with their leaders as mentors and forge friendships while exchanging their culture and learning about others.
